2-Ray House

The proposal concerns the design of a two-story house in the neighborhood Samakia Aroi of Patras. Both the natural landscape and the unobstructed view of the city and sea play a decisive role in the composition.

The starting point of the design is a “vanishing point” on the left side of the plot. From this point, imaginary lines begin that extend at different angles, defining the orientation of two distinct volumes. These volumes differ in height, which allows them to be harmoniously integrated into the natural terrain, following the morphology of the plot.

The two-level structure serves to maximize the view, allowing the living areas —living room, dining room and kitchen— to be placed on the upper and more outward-facing level. The bedrooms and auxiliary spaces are located on the ground floor, which has a more introverted character.

This distinction between public and private spaces is also expressed in materials:

The upper, extroverted volume is constructed with load-bearing masonry and clad with a white thermal facade, providing purity and brightness. In contrast, the ground floor is clad with stone, reinforcing the relationship with the natural landscape.

The planting of the plot functions as a connective tissue between the two volumes and the different materialities. The presence of trees, low vegetation and the planted roof on the ground floor reinforces the integration of the residence into the landscape, offering coherence, bioclimatic function and visual harmony.
