Casa Lineal

The design proposal concerns a two-story residence in Patras Beach.

The plot borders on the coastal wetland of the Agiya marsh, which is characterized by a special ecosystem of flora. It is linear and straight through, as it joins two roads, where one of the two leads to the beach. The reference point of the composition was the demand of the residents to achieve permeable mobility and free passage of vehicles on the plot, so that when exiting they are driven directly to the coastal road and the beach. This combined with the linearity of the plot itself (its shape) led to the linearity that characterizes the synthetic proposal.

Having the movement within the plot as a reference point, the areas of the residence were designed in such a way as to be structured in three linear and parallel zones in the space. These zones extend towards the sea. A characteristic of the proposal are the visible concrete walls that demarcate and distinguish these zones as well as the individual spaces that compose the residential building system; the entrance to the plot area, the parking area, the interior areas of the residence, the bbq area ,all in continuity and parallelism in space.

As a result, a system of individual spaces and volumes was created, that is characterized by linearity, both imaginary (due to the walls and by extension the zones) as well as geometrical (due to the geometry of the building’s volumes) , which together make up the desired housing system.

Functionally, the day and night areas are located on the ground floor level, which is characterized by transparency due to the large openings, but also by the semi-outdoor spaces which are necessary for living in Mediterranean places. As a result, the interior is united with the outside-the surrounding area with the rich planting. The guest room is located on the first floor, which is facing the view straight ahead at the city beach and has a double function, as it functions both as a guest room as well as an office.
